Wössner has lived inside race engines since the late 1970s, when motorsport man Eckart Wössner began importing performance pistons into Germany. In 1994 the family firm started forging its own, and every Wössner piston is still machined in Germany from blanks forged at the company's own facility in Monale, Italy (Forging Group Monale), bought in 2009 to control metal quality from the first press stroke.

The heart of the range is forged pistons. The catalogue covers two-stroke and four-stroke top ends for KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas and Yamaha, from 85 SX and TC 85 minis through the 125 SX, EXC and YZ125 class up to the 250 and 300 EXC. Kits arrive ready to fit with rings, pin and clips in the box, and a friction-reducing skirt coating that eases break-in. One-ring and two-ring designs are offered, with high-compression options for engines tuned to make more.

Beyond the top end, Wössner builds complete connecting rods and full crankshaft assemblies for bottom-end rebuilds on the same machines, plus the small parts a freshen-up needs: small-end bearings, piston rings and main bearings. Top end or bottom end, motocross track or enduro trail, the rebuild starts here.

    Frequently asked questions about Wössner

Which Wössner part should I choose for an engine rebuild?

It depends how deep you go. A forged piston kit refreshes the top end and restores compression, with high-compression versions for tuned engines. A connecting rod suits a bottom-end refresh, while a full crankshaft assembly rebuilds the whole bottom end. Small-end and main bearings and piston rings cover routine freshen-ups.

Can I build a complete rebuild kit from Wössner?

Yes. The range spans the whole engine, so you can pair a forged piston kit with a connecting rod or a complete crankshaft assembly and add the wear parts around them - small-end bearing, piston rings and main bearings. That lets you do a full top-end and bottom-end rebuild on one bike from a single brand. Your dealer confirms the exact part numbers for your model and year.

Does Wössner suit both motocross and enduro?

Yes. The forged pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft assemblies cover SX and TC motocross machines alongside EXC, XC-W and WR enduro models, in both two-stroke and four-stroke form. Forged aluminium handles the heat and revs of hard track use and the long hours of trail riding equally well, so the same rebuild parts serve either discipline.

How do I buy Wössner via Knobby?

Knobby sells through dealers, not directly to consumers. Your local dealer orders from the full Wössner range and confirms the right piston, connecting rod, crankshaft or bearing for your engine, along with sizes, current stock and prices. Tell them your bike's make, model and year so they can match the correct part number and oversize before ordering.
